Report from Dr. Herman
Davin saw Dr. Herman today. Dr. Herman is his ortho surgeon who did his surgery a year ago. He said Davin's x-rays look great! His other hip is still fine and it couldn't be better. He said we have done a great job:) (Love that) The only thing we need to think about is whether we will take out the hardware in Davin's hip. It is a rather large piece of hardware and it is very visible from the outside of his hip. Dr. Herman usually removes it when a person is as thin as Davin is. To remove the hardware would require the same surgery basically, minus sawing the bone. Yikes! I didn't realize that. I believe he would be casted again as well as he wouldn't be able to move it for 4-6 weeks. So, we will wait and see how things are in 6 months.

It's good to hear he's doing so well. I hope you're doing well too.
Jeff has a facebook account and showed me Cheney's page - WOW, he is so grown up and looks just like Alan!!! Anyway, we read where Cheney says he loves his brother more than anything else and we both went "awwww"!
Ugh, poor guy would have to go through quite a bit to have that hardware removed. What happens if you just leave it, will it cause him harm as he grows?
that doesnt sound good. Dont you hate making those decissions! great news though!
Rachel - the hardware sticks out quite a bit. So, in time, it could cause his skin to break down and have an opened sore. So far, this has no happened, but I guess Dr. Herman was thinking as he gets older it could happen. He also said that when he is older, his skin may not heal up as quickly if it did cause break down.
I'm glad Davin is doing so well but sad to hear he may face another surgery. What a bummer!
I am glad that Davin is doing well, but the hip thingy sounds kind of scarey. Does it bother Davin? Is there any way you can fatten him up? I had Dennis on Heavy cream and now half and half. :)
I left you an award on my blog today
I remember Davin! He was the greatest and the life of every church party. Tell him I said "hi". I miss you guys, especially when I drive by your old house... it makes me saddish.
So glad to read that Davin is doing well. I think I first "met you" in the blogger sense shortly after his surgery! Praying for the protection of his skin as you decide when or whether to have the pin removed.
